Standing Still

One of the reasons I love going to the beach is because of the peace the waves make me feel as they wash forward and then recede backwards onto itself. It is such an engaging and intimate sight. However, when I stand on the beach with my feet sinking in the sand and watch the water as it recedes, it seems as if I am moving but I am not. I am standing perfectly still but there have been times when it truly seemed as if I had moved, yet I was in the same spot.
Life can be that way at times, it seems like we’re moving because everything and everybody else around us is moving but we aren’t. The longer that you stand in place, the deeper your feet began to sink and after a while you find that you have to pull your feet up to continue to walk and move forward. The point is to recognize that you aren’t moving, it took me a minute to understand that I was just standing still. I know that the bible says to stand still and watch what God will do but we still have to have movement in our lives (Exodus 14:13).
I love to look at our biblical ancestors for the “cure” (in my Magneto voice from X-men), let’s look at the man who had laid on his bed for thirty-eight years (John 5:1-9). Jesus asked the man did he want to be healed, anyone would assume that was an obvious yes, especially since the man was waiting with the others around the pool. The man answered Jesus question by giving his spiel on why he wasn’t healed and Jesus told him to take up his bed and walk, so the man did. I don’t know how long you have been standing still and watching everything and everyone pass you by but I stop by today to tell you that the one who can walk on the water can get you unstuck with six simple words, “Take up your bed and walk!”
