Left Behind

Who doesn't want to receive an inheritance? Well, if you read in Genesis 25, Esau, the twin brother of Jacob sold his birthright to him for a bowl of soup. Did he not understand that this was something that was so important that he should do everything in his power to keep it? Something that he didn't have to work for, that was given to him, simply because he was the oldest son.

Who knows, but I think those of us who have not even had the opportunity to receive an inheritance, might feel some type of way toward Esau's seemingly carelessness of his father's blood, sweat and tears. And if we do, we should know that because we are children of the only one true God, Yahweh, we have an inheritance too! The beauty of our inheritance is that we don't have to be the first born in our family, or some rich relative's favorite to get it.

But there are stipulations such as John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Seems simple enough, but we must be careful because just like Esau, we can get sidetracked, if we don't understand the magnitude of receiving God's inheritance. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 ESV / Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

Question to self: Will I accept and take seriously the gift Jesus died to give me? Or will I be like Esau and feed my immediate but temporary need for what I believe I need to satisfy my cravings and get left behind?
